Ausra Sumakare is a professional artist and art therapist. She uses painting as a response to human suffering, life’s challenges, and the limitations she encounters in her work as a therapist. Art and psychology have profoundly shaped artists personality and are reflected in her narrative works, rich in archetypal symbolism.
"My creations are designed for those seeking personal transformation, confidence, and the courage to turn their dreams into reality. My message is: Be the hero of your life, boldly create your own reality—everything is possible.”
Ausra invites women to connect with their soul, embrace the world of feelings, and never give up. Her works are characterized by soft strokes, abstract backgrounds, and positive themes inspired by natural elements.
Born in 1972 in Kaunas, Ausra have loved creating since childhood. After graduating from the A. Martinaitis Art School, she pursued self-directed studies. Her artistic journey began with oriental painting, which captivated her with its aesthetics and philosophy. She was also inspired by the symbolic works of M. K. Čiurlionis and G. Jung.
In 1996, artist graduated from Vytautas Magnus University with a master’s degree in psychology. Later, she studied art therapy, becoming one of the pioneers of this profession in Lithuania. In 2011, founded the "House of Creative Therapy," a private art studio where she worked as an art therapist. Her studies at the Milan Art Institute encouraged Ausra to paint professionally.
About artist
„It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop“
- Confucius

I have loved drawing since childhood, often immersing myself in imagination and experimenting with creativity. It took years of study and experience in psychology, art therapy, and painting to mature as an artist. My inspiration comes from the stories I hear during art therapy sessions, the beautiful nature of Lithuania, and my personal journey of spiritual development. Through my work, I aim to inspire and encourage others to believe in themselves, to see that perseverance makes anything possible. I strive to help people resist despair, boldly create their own reality, grow, and care for their emotional and spiritual well-being.
Since 2018, I have been working with mixed media techniques on canvas. While I usually have a vision or message I wish to convey, I start my paintings freely, intuitively playing with acrylic inks and allowing the image to emerge naturally. I trust the universal creative power that flows through me. Later, I refine the work by connecting the abstract background with my vision using acrylic paints. At times, I begin with texture paste or collage. I finish my paintings with oil paints, which add depth and subtlety to the final pieces.
